What is better, Wood or Steel Framing?

Joshua Engberg

Wood Versus Steel Framing: All recommended capacities we quote can handle wood or steel framing. Wood is still the preferred industry standard due to Cost, Availability, and Ease to build, and make modifications. A few things to note if you decide to use steel: The cost for electrical and plumbing trades will increase due to specific types of materials required for use in steel framing. Loft heights will also be decreased due to steel framing not handling the same lateral loads as its wood counterpart. Weight savings is closer to 10%-15% as opposed to some claims as high as 40%. Mold issues are also more common with steel-framed tiny houses in conjunction with flange-style trailers. Roof framing can also be more challenging with skylights and handling heavier and larger roof windows.
